Description
What is Time Boxing or Time Blocking? Time Boxing is a time management strategy, in which tasks are allocated a fixed time period within your schedule. Why Should I Timebox? Don’t let it’s simplicity fool you. Time Boxing is one of the most effective ways to plan your day. 1. Eliminate Distractions… Time Boxing promotes a single-tasking mindset where one’s full attention to is devoted to a task for specified duration of time. This discourages unproductive multitasking and jumping, where people jump back and forth between projects and end up getting little done. 2. …And Feel in Control. By Time Boxing you will feel more in control. This is especially important because control may be the biggest driver of happiness at work. Constant interruptions make us less happy and less productive. Timeboxing is the proper antidote to this. You decide what to do and when to do it, block out all distractions for that timeboxed period and get it done. Repeat. Consistent control and demonstrable accomplishment is hugely satisfying, even addictive. This is not just above productivity, this is about intent and how we feel. 3. Reduce Work Related Stress. Time Boxing encourages allocating deliberate time away from the desk, reducing the chance of employee burnout. This can help people feel more rejuvenated and more productive when they are working. 4. Curb Perfectionist Tendencies. Time Boxing is known to be a life hack to help curb perfectionist tendencies (by setting a firm time and not overcommitting to a task) which can also enhance creativity and focus (by creating a sense of urgency or increased pressure). 5. Be substantially more productive. Parkinson’s Law flippantly states that work expands so as to fill the time available for it’s completion. Creating a sense of urgency to get each task done in a predetermined amount of time helps people accomplish more in the same time period.
